CA: Beverly Hills City Manager Apologizes to NBA All-Start Jaylen Brown in ESPN Article

The Beverly Hills city manager apologized to Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown on Thursday, saying a previous statement about what led police to shut down a brand event hosted by the NBA All-Star on Saturday night was inaccurate. Brown is threatening a lawsuit asserting racial bias and reputational harm.

"On behalf of the City, I would like to apologize to Jaylen Brown and the Jannard family," City Manager Nancy Hunt-Coffey said in Thursday's statement. "The City has a responsibility to its residents and neighborhoods to ensure adherence to established regulations for events held at private residences. These are designed to support the safety and welfare of neighbors and attendees. City staff observed circumstances that are believed to be City code violations and for that reason alone, the event was ended."

WI: Former Milwaukee County administrator accused of secretly recording sexual partner with Meta glasses

While this is not a story about a city or county manager, I wanted to bring awareness to the increasing presence of Meta and other brands of glasses that can record you as an executive.

I would make the argument that you should consider updating employee handbook policies to address the use of glasses and smart phones to record (audio and video) by employees to record their interactions with other employees, elected officials, and the public.

Last week, I brought you another story out of Wisconsin where a former staffer recorded the city administrator and shared those recordings with the local paper. I really think the issue of secret recordings is not talked about enough in this profession and it is important to note that even if the person who recorded you committed a crime — the only thing that is going to get remembered is what you were recorded saying or doing.
