A Florida executive who is departing the organization chided the board for its sloppy and unprofessional approach to finding her replacement. In Pennsylvania, an elected official thinks hiring an administrator is a waste of money — in spite of the fact that a grant covers a significant share of the $71,000 salary. External applicants need not apply for the Beaumont, Texas city manager gig. And a manager is forced to deal with an employee who dropped the N-word on video during a road rage incident.
All that and more news after the job postings.

FL: 'This is sloppy': Departing Flagler County Administrator Admonishes Board Over Approach to Transition
Florida is gonna Florida, folks!
Be vary wary of the upcoming Flagler County administrator vacancy because that governing body appears to be a dumpster fire.
Heidi Petito referenced the March 3 meeting where comments were made to “rip the band-aid off” and have an “immediate separation” between Petito and the county. Carney and Richardson were the primary advocates of finding an immediate replacement for the county administrator position.
“This is sloppy. This is not a professional look,” Petito said. “I'm here as a professional. I will stay on. But if we could continue to act as professionals and move forward with the budget while you all search for a permanent replacement, that would be wonderful.”
When she says “continue to act as professionals” she is being very charitable…
PA: Discussion to Hire New Clearfield Borough Manager Gets Heated at Council Meeting
An ignorant councilmember balked at the idea hiring a new borough manager for $71,000 a year — even though a significant chunk of the salary has been covered by a grant.
“I do not see what the value in a borough manager. They are being paid a salary of $71,000 per year, for what; writing grants. The grant we received for the borough manager covers 75 percent of that salary for the first year, 50 percent in the next, and 25 percent in the third,” Clearfield Councilmember Bruce Fair said.
“That’s without benefits. We are the ones paying the benefits. I feel we would be better off using that money in a different way.”
TX: 13 applicants seek Beaumont city manager position ahead of deadline
What kind of recruitment is Beaumont doing? Apparently, one that skews the race in favor of an internal applicant.
They only had the position open for a week and they only managed to get 13 applicants. Of those 13, six are current employees. A city north of 100,000 people should be able to scrounge up a larger pool than this!
If the goal is to promote internally then skip the charade and just interview internal candidates and then open it up if you feel like none are ready to assume the role.
