An awkward confrontation between a reporter and a city administrator dodging her interview requests was caught on video. In Ohio, the Cincinnati city manager fired the police chief after months of drama. And up the road about an hour, residents are calling for the termination of a city manager in response to her hiring of a police chief. And an odd sequence of events after a city employee got into a minor auto collision might serve as a useful example to examine your own policies for employee accidents.

All that and more news after the job postings.

OH: Two City Managers About an Hour Apart Dealing with Police Chief Controversies

For weeks, I have been documenting the battle between Cincinnati City Manager Sheryl Long and her police chief, Teresa Theetge. Last week, Long announced she had terminated Theetge.

In here termination letter, Long said she had to "beg" Theetge to get more police on the streets during the spike in Downtown crime in 2025. You may recall that an assault made national news.

In a video statement, Long claimed that Chief Theetge had requested the opportunity to step down in-lieu of termination. When she gave Theetge the opportunity to resign, the chief reneged and was dismissed.

Some residents and activists are calling for the termination of Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein. She promoted an internal candidate to the police chief position for the first time in 25 years, but locals say the process was not transparent and that no effort was taken to explore external candidates.

WI: Reporter Chases Down Elkhorn Administrator Who Refuses to Give an Interview Regarding Fire Department Complaints

An awkward encounter occurred when a local news reporter and her cameraman confronted Elkhorn City Administrator Adam Swann (watch video).

A couple weeks ago, the reporter sat down with two fire department employees who have claimed they are understaffed, underfunded, and that public safety has been compromised. She has been trying to get an official response ever since, but has been stonewalled.

Meanwhile, the fire chief was put on leave and city leaders sent employees a letter telling them to keep quiet,

LA: Gonzales City Council debates over procedures following chief of staff's crash in city-owned car

Interesting story about a controversy surrounding a car accident involving a high ranking Gonzales employee. It may be worth reviewing the issues in this case within your own organization to make sure everyone is on the same page.

The employee rolled backward into a vehicle and left the area after seeing the other car was not damaged and speaking with both the driver and passenger to make sure everyone was okay. He drove home and called the mayor to report the incident.

Later that evening, the city’s police department went to his home and issued him a misdemeanor summons for “hit and run.”
