SC: County Administrator Turns Down Raise for Third Year in a Row

Pickens County Administrator Ken Roper got rave reviews and a contract extension. But for the third year in a row — he turned down the raise. And on top of that, he apparently reduced his severance clause protection.

“This has been very rewarding for me to do that in the county that is the place of my birth and the county where I raise my family. It’s important work,” Roper said. “I’m very proud to do it, but more work remains.”

VT: Killington Select Board places town manager on paid administrative leave after refusing to identify position for elimination

NC: Interesting Contractual Provision Opposed by Selma Councilmember

After the Selma Town Council voted 4-1 to hire Phillip McDaniel as the town’s next manager, Councilmember Susan Watson explained why she cast the lone dissenting vote.

“As this contract is written, Mr. McDaniel shall have the right to resign with severance following an election cycle within 60 days of a new council being seated,” Watson said. “I had initially asked if this was normal and was told that it was not normal, but if the council passed it that it was acceptable.”
