Earlier this week, I shared the news about a 31-year-old town manager who had died suddenly. Some shocking and disturbing details have emerged. A county administrator is tired of unchecked misinformation being shared during public comments and wants to do something about it. A public speaker in another community was removed after hurling vile insults at her. And updating another recent story, a county administrator is being sued by his county commissioner.
All that and more news after the job postings.

ME: Town Manager’s Death Ruled Suicide; Was Under Investigation
Some disturbing and unpleasant details to share regarding the story earlier this week about the death of Skowhegan (ME) Town Manager Nicholas Nadeau.
Authorities have ruled it a suicide. Additionally, in the weeks before his death, police were investigating allegations that he attempted to solicit sexually explicit images from a teenage girl, sent her explicit images of himself and child sexual abuse material of other girls and exposed himself to her in a video call, court records show.
SC: County Administrator addresses misinformation that may come up during public comment
Chester County Administrator Brian Hester has had it with misinformation shared during public comment periods at government meetings. He’s taking a proactive approach to help counter the harmful impacts of these comments, especially in this age of social media virality.
“Going forward, when statements are made that contain clear factual inaccuracies, I will provide a clarification at a subsequent meeting. These responses are not intended to create hostility or discourage dialog. They are intended to set the record straight,” he said.
TX: Aransas Pass man removed after calling female mayor a vulgar expletive
Two years ago Aransas Pass resident Jason Followell was removed from a city council meeting after cursing at the mayor. His lawyer, who filed a lawsuit on his behalf, was a guest on my podcast to discuss rules of decorum and the First Amendment.
The profane and vulgar Followell appeared once again and called the female mayor a “f*****g c**t b***h” after she said his speaking time had expired. He was removed.

OR: Lane County Commissioner sues County Administrator, others over alleged rights violations
In the February 26th issue of the newsletter, we spotlighted a report that sustained allegations that Lane County Commissioner David Loveall retaliated against the county administrator and other staffers.
Well, now he’s really pissed. He filed a federal lawsuit against the county, its administrator, and three fellow commissioners. It states in part:
"Members of Lane County government have engaged in a coordinated scheme to silence and penalize my political and religious speech in an attempt to affect the upcoming election in May. This cynical effort ignored constitutional rights, open meeting laws, and due process in an unrelenting effort to achieve a seemingly predetermined political outcome…”
