A lot of ugly headlines this week in the world of city management.

In Georgia, a city manager who was arrested last month for allegedly stealing up to $1,000,000 was found dead this week. In Texas, a city manager was arrested and held without bail by the Department of Homeland Security. Another Texas manager who was arrested last week on a felony gun charge has resigned. And a Wisconsin manager faces 25 years in prison after his hit-and-run charges are upgraded to a felony.

All that and more news after the job postings.

GA: Ellaville ex-city manager accused of stealing $400K found dead

Donna Lynn McChargue, the former Ellaville city manager who faced 29 counts related to allegedly stealing $400,000 to potentially $1,000,000, was found dead about a month after being charged. The cause of death is unknown, but no foul play is suspected.

McChargue began working for the city as a billing clerk in October 2014 and was named city manager on June 22, 2015.

VA: City Manager Search Saga Comes to an End in Franklin

A bizarre and unprofessional city manager recruitment process in Franklin appears to be over. In early February, Brian Thrower was the sole finalist and his appointment seemingly appeared to be a done deal after he signed a contract. However, the council voted 4-3 against approving it.

Then the council decided to make a U-turn and offer the job to the former city manager, Rosylen Oglesby, who quit in August after being in the role for just 11 months. She cited “bullying, disrespect, and aggressive behavior” in her resignation letter and could no longer “work in an atmosphere where my professional integrity is frequently called into question and where ongoing hostility and disrespect have permeated the workplace.”

Shockingly, she rejected the overture. The Council voted 7-0 to hire David Freeman.
